Freeport Florida

Freeport

Looking for coastal living at a more affordable price? Freeport, Florida is located in Walton County, Florida, and is just a 20-minute drive from the beaches of South Walton. Freeport is said to have been established c.1830 as Genoa, then named Four Mile Landing during the Civil War, and was later named Freeport (most likely due to the fact that it was no charge to use the dock at Four-Mile-Creek). Historically the economy of Freeport was largely dependent on the local timber industry through sawmills and logging, as well as the processing of turpentine.  Today is one of the fastest growing towns in the region and is a desirable location to own property due to the city's easy access to the area’s beaches, interstate I-10, military bases, freshwater springs, and the Choctawhatchee Bay.

FUN FACTS: Population: 5,861 (2020 census); Situated at the junction of Four Mile Creek and Lafayette Creek, which empty into LaGrange Bayou, which flows into the Choctawhatchee Bay. Home of four parks, including Marse Landing at Four Mile Creek (includes boat ramp), Freeport Regional Sports Complex at Hammock Bay, Casey Park and Laird Park.
