Explore Destin’s Rich History at the Destin History & Fishing Museum

You already know that Destin is home to beautiful beaches and abundant fishing, but did you know that your favorite beach town’s rich heritage has been captured for you to explore? Celebrating its 10th year, the Destin History & Fishing Museum offers visitors an inside look into the people and history of The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village. And it’s now bigger and better than ever.

The museum’s new Historic Park Complex was introduced on Founder’s Day in May. Located adjacent to the museum, it houses the original Destin post office building and the seine boat Primrose. Built in 1925 and recently restored, the Primrose is the oldest vessel of its kind in existence.

Inside the museum, visitors can see what life was like in Destin before the arrival of electricity in the 1930s, view a large collection of antique fishing rods – including one that once belonged to author Ernest Hemingway, and see award-winning examples of the many fish reeled in along Destin’s shores, displayed along 100 feet of wall space.

Take an hour to tour the museum on your next Destin vacation and see why it was awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence Award for 2015. Located at 108 Stahlman Avenue, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am – 4pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and military, and $3 for children/students ages 7 through college.  Museum members and children under age 6 are admitted free.

If you haven’t booked your next beach vacation, we invite you explore our vast array of premier South Walton and Destin vacation rentals online or call one of our friendly vacation specialists at 1-800-225-7652.

See you @ the beach!
